  VB.net is probably the most usefully. Though I think C++ and Java are for more high end programming.

  Visual Basic all the way, some schools teach a class specifically for GIS. It is really usefull for writing applications.

      you can build just about anything you can think of with VB. you can create stand alone stuff, or applications that run inside arcgis. Here's a modeling program I wrote with VB and ArcGIS.

        Ar you guys using VB6 or VB.Net? I've had no formal training in VB except self-taught reference material and books, but I can muck through some code, wish I could create stuff if I knew how to plan out a app.
